What is a Deep Plane Facelift?
A deep plane facelift–also known as a vertical lift–is an advanced cosmetic procedure designed to address signs of aging in the face and neck. But unlike a traditional facelift, the deep plane facelift lifts and repositions the deeper structures of the face, including the fascial layers overlying the facial muscles, deep ligaments, and fat pads. By targeting these deeper tissues, this novel surgery can completely transform your appearance and make you look over a decade younger.
With this procedure, you can address a number of concerns, including lines and wrinkles, jowling, sagging, and more. A deep plane facelift also ensures you never have that tight or overdone look.

What are the Benefits of a Deep Plane Facelift?
There are a wide range of benefits you can expect when you choose a deep plane facelift with Dr. Tania Hassanzdeh, including the following:
- Natural-looking results: Because a deep plane facelift targets the underlying structures of the face and allows greater lift, it produces much more natural-looking results and prevents a windswept look.
- Long-lasting results: The results of a deep plane facelift can last anywhere from 10-15 years, allowing you to enjoy a more youthful appearance for a longer period than other facial cosmetic procedures.
- Boost in confidence: Many patients notice a significant boost in their confidence once they have healed and can see the full results of their deep plane facelift.
- More youthful appearance: As the procedure addresses lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, volume loss, and jowling, you can expect to look at least a decade younger.
The Deep Plane Facelift Procedure
To start your deep plane facelift, we’ll first administer general anesthesia to ensure you’re comfortable. From there, Dr. Hassanzadeh will then make well-concealed incisions in the face and neck. They are usually made within the hairline and around the ear. The skin is then lifted. The superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) is then separated from the deeper tissues over the cheeks down to the laughing lines. The ligaments that tether the skin, fat, and fascia to muscle and bone are also released. The SMAS is then carefully lifted up and stitches are placed to anchor it into place.
Once the structures are moved and the underlying tissues are reshaped, the incisions will be closed, and you’ll be ready to start your recovery process. The procedure typically takes 4-6 hours.
Deep Plane Facelift Recovery
Recovery from a deep plane facelift procedure requires about 10-14 days. During your recovery, it is normal to experience some swelling, discomfort, and bruising. Dr. Hassanzadeh will prescribe pain medication to ensure you can comfortably recover. In the early stages of recovery, you will want to rest as much as possible and lie down with your head elevated. You’ll also need to limit your activity levels and avoid drinking and smoking.
While your initial results will be hidden due to swelling and bruising, you will start to see improvements a few weeks into your recovery and will see your full results about six months after your procedure.
Pairs Well With…
Dr. Hassanzadeh’s patients often request a brow lift and eyelid lift with their deep plane facelift to open up their forehead and eyes as much as their middle and lower face. A brow lift also helps smooth wrinkles over the forehead. Additional procedures Dr. Hassanzadeh typically recommends are an upper lip lift and erbium laser for ultimate perioral refinement and skin rejuvenation.
Am I a Candidate?
If you’re struggling with deep creases and wrinkles, sagging skin, jowls, and volume loss in your face and neck area, you are likely a good candidate for a deep plane facelift. We also recommend that you be in generally good health, be a nonsmoker, have realistic expectations, and be looking for a more youthful appearance.
