The Erbium Procedure
To start your erbium laser resurfacing treatment, we’ll begin by cleansing your skin and protecting your eyes. If performed in the office, we’ll apply a topical local anesthetic to the skin. This ensures you’re completely comfortable throughout your treatment. From there, the erbium laser will be applied to the treatment area. The laser interacts with the water in the body to target the skin cells and kickstart the body’s natural healing process.
How long your treatment lasts can depend on the size of the area and the results you’re looking for. It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour. When your treatment is finished, ointment will be applied to the face.
Erbium Recovery
After your erbium treatment, your skin will likely be red and swollen, and you will want to follow Dr. Hassanzadeh’s aftercare instructions very closely. It’s important to keep your skin moisturized and to wear sunscreen to protect your skin from any damage from the sun. While you’re healing, you’ll also want to avoid picking or peeling your skin and avoid any irritants on the skin.
Recovery can take 3-4 weeks, and usually, only one treatment is enough to see significant results.
Who is a Candidate?
Good candidates for Erbium laser resurfacing include individuals who are in generally good health, those with realistic expectations, and nonsmokers. It’s also recommended for those struggling with lines and wrinkles, acne scars, dark spots, and surgical scars.
It may not be appropriate for those struggling with cold sores, anyone with chronic health concerns like diabetes and autoimmune disease, those with dark skin types, and those taking certain medications.
