- Alma Harmony Laser Treatments in Beverly Hills, CA
One of the most common questions patients ask before their first session is simple: what does recovery actually look like? The honest answer is that it depends on which modality you receive, and that is one of the things that makes the Alma Harmony so appealing. Some treatments require virtually no downtime at all, while others involve a brief but worthwhile healing period. Understanding what to expect ahead of time allows you to plan confidently and get the most from your results.
Here is a comprehensive guide to Alma Harmony recovery, broken down by treatment type.
A Note on Individual Variation
Before diving into specifics, it is worth acknowledging that every patient’s skin responds differently. Factors such as your skin type, the area being treated, the intensity of your settings, and how diligently you follow post-care instructions all influence how your recovery unfolds. Dr. Hassanzadeh and her team will provide you with personalized aftercare guidance tailored to your specific treatment plan, and those instructions should always take priority over general guidelines.

Several Alma Harmony modalities work beneath the surface of the skin without disrupting the outer layer. These non-ablative treatments are among the most popular precisely because they fit seamlessly into a busy lifestyle.
Iris Dye-VL (IPL)
The Iris Dye-VL uses intense pulsed light to address sun damage, redness, rosacea, age spots, freckles, and broken capillaries. Most patients experience mild redness and warmth immediately following treatment, similar to a light sunburn, that typically resolves within a few hours to a day. Pigmented spots may initially appear darker before they flake away naturally over the following one to two weeks. This is a completely normal and expected part of the process, a sign the treatment is working precisely as intended.
Makeup can usually be applied the following day, and most patients return to their normal routine the same day or the day after treatment.
ClearLift Pro
The ClearLift Pro is a non-ablative Q-switched Nd:YAG laser that delivers energy deep within the skin without disturbing the surface. It is sometimes called a “lunchtime laser” for good reason. Downtime is minimal to none. Some patients notice mild redness or a subtle warming sensation that resolves within a few hours. There is typically no peeling, crusting, or visible change to the skin’s surface, making this one of the most discreet options in the Alma Harmony lineup.
VascuPen
The VascuPen targets visible blood vessels, spider veins, cherry angiomas, and small vascular lesions with precise diode laser energy. Treated vessels may appear slightly red or darker immediately after the session before gradually fading over one to three weeks. Minor bruising is possible in more sensitive areas. Most patients experience no significant interruption to their daily activities.
Ablative Resurfacing: A More Significant Healing Window, and Well Worth It
For patients seeking more dramatic improvement in skin texture, tone, and surface quality, the SupErb handpiece offers ablative resurfacing with the Alma Harmony’s 2940nm Er:YAG laser. Because this modality removes the outermost layers of skin, the recovery experience is more involved, and the results are proportionally more transformative.
SupErb Ablative Resurfacing
In the first 24 to 48 hours following treatment, the skin will appear red, swollen, and raw. This is a normal and expected response as the skin begins its renewal process. A gentle, prescribed skincare regimen will be provided to keep the treated area clean, protected, and properly moisturized throughout healing.
By days three through five, the skin will begin to peel and flake as the damaged surface sheds and fresh new skin emerges beneath. It is essential during this phase not to pick, pull, or rub the skin, as doing so can disrupt healing and affect your final result. Patience is a genuine virtue during this window.
By days five through seven, most patients notice that the skin has resurfaced and the most visible signs of healing have resolved. Redness may linger for several more weeks and will gradually fade, revealing the luminous, refined skin texture that makes ablative resurfacing so rewarding.
Most patients feel comfortable returning to work and social activities within seven to ten days, though individual timelines vary. Sun protection is absolutely critical during the healing period and beyond, as newly resurfaced skin is particularly vulnerable to UV damage.
General Post-Treatment Care Tips for All Alma Harmony Treatments
Regardless of which Alma Harmony modality you receive, a few universal principles apply to support your recovery and protect your results.
Stay out of direct sun. Laser-treated skin is more sensitive to UV exposure. Diligent broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher application is non-negotiable following any Alma Harmony treatment, and prolonged sun exposure should be avoided for at least two weeks.
Keep skin hydrated. A gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer will support the skin barrier and help manage any dryness, tightness, or mild flaking that occurs during healing.
Avoid heat and sweat. For the first 24 to 48 hours after treatment, skip intense workouts, saunas, steam rooms, and hot showers. Excess heat can exacerbate inflammation and prolong redness.
Skip active skincare ingredients temporarily. Retinols, exfoliating acids, and other active ingredients should be paused in the days immediately surrounding your treatment as directed by Dr. Hassanzadeh. Introducing them too soon can irritate healing skin.
Do not pick at peeling skin. Whether you have had an ablative treatment or notice light flaking from a non-ablative session, allow the skin to shed on its own schedule. Forcing the process can compromise your results and increase the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation.
Stay well hydrated. Healthy, well-hydrated skin heals more efficiently. Drinking plenty of water in the days following treatment supports your skin from the inside out.
When Will You See Your Results?
The timing of visible results varies by modality. After ClearLift Pro and VascuPen treatments, gradual improvements in tone, clarity, and vascular appearance develop over several weeks as the skin responds to the laser energy.
Iris Dye-VL patients often notice a meaningful improvement in pigmentation and redness within two to four weeks once treated spots have shed.
After SupErb ablative resurfacing, the most dramatic improvements in skin texture, smoothness, and radiance become apparent once healing is complete, with continued refinement over the following months as collagen remodeling progresses.
For most patients, optimal results develop over a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart. Dr. Hassanzadeh will outline a personalized treatment cadence during your consultation based on your skin concerns and goals.
