What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a “nose job,” is a surgical procedure designed to reshape the nose. Whether addressing cosmetic concerns, correcting structural issues, or improving breathing function, rhinoplasty can enhance facial harmony and boost self-confidence. The procedure can adjust the nose’s size, shape, angle, and proportion to complement your natural features.

Are There Different Types of Rhinoplasty?

Yes, Dr. Hassanzadeh offers several specialized types of rhinoplasty to meet diverse patient needs, including:

  • Primary Rhinoplasty: For first-time nasal reshaping.
  • Revision Rhinoplasty: Corrects or refines results from a previous surgery.
  • Ethnic Rhinoplasty: Respects unique nasal features while achieving balanced aesthetics.

Each procedure is customized to your individual anatomy and goals, ensuring results that look natural and harmonious with your face.

Open Rhinoplasty Technique

Open rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly used techniques for creating precise, predictable, and natural-looking results. In this approach, Dr. Hassanzadeh makes a small incision along the columella (the strip of skin between the nostrils), allowing the skin to be gently lifted to fully expose the underlying nasal framework.

This increased visibility gives Dr. Hassanzadeh the ability to:

  • Make highly accurate adjustments to the cartilage and bone
  • Correct asymmetries and structural issues
  • Improve nasal function and breathing
  • Perform complex reshaping with greater control
  • Deliver balanced, stable long-term results

Although open rhinoplasty involves a small external incision, the resulting scar is barely noticeable once healed. This technique is especially valuable for revision cases, crooked noses, functional corrections, ethnic rhinoplasty, and patients seeking significant aesthetic refinement.

Closed Rhinoplasty Technique

Closed rhinoplasty is another surgical approach that reshapes the nose through incisions made entirely inside the nostrils. Because there are no external incisions, this method eliminates visible scarring and typically results in slightly less swelling and a faster early recovery period.

Closed rhinoplasty is ideal for patients who:

  • Need mild to moderate reshaping
  • Want subtle changes to the nasal bridge or tip
  • Prefer a less invasive approach
  • Do not require extensive structural correction

While the technique offers a quicker initial recovery, it provides more limited access to the nasal framework.

About Dr. Hassanzadeh

Dr. Tania Hassanzadeh is a fellowship-trained Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon based in Beverly Hills, CA. She graduated with honors in Neuroscience from Duke University and earned her medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, where she was one of the few inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society.

She went on to complete her residency in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Tufts Medical Center, gaining extensive experience in procedures such as rhinoplasty, facial trauma repair, and reconstruction after Mohs surgery.

Dr. Hassanzadeh then advanced her training through two highly specialized fellowships that shaped her expertise in modern facial rejuvenation and nasal surgery. Her Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at Boston Medical Center and The Spiegel Center immersed her in high-volume cosmetic procedures, where she refined advanced techniques in deep-plane facelifts, rhinoplasty, facial feminization surgery, and facial reconstructive work. Under the mentorship of world-renowned surgeons, she trained extensively in open rhinoplasty, learning nuanced methods for reshaping the nasal framework with long-lasting, natural-looking results. She also gained mastery in deep-plane facelift approaches, focusing on lifting and repositioning the deeper facial layers to restore youthful contours with greater longevity.

Her second fellowship, in Craniomaxillofacial Surgery with the AO North America Foundation, expanded her skills in skeletal reconstruction, trauma, and facial anatomy at the deepest structural level. This fellowship strengthened her expertise in bone work, facial reshaping, and complex reconstruction; skills that now enhance her precision in aesthetic procedures like rhinoplasty, chin and jawline contouring, and facial balancing.

While completing her fellowship, Dr. Hassanzadeh also served as an Assistant Professor at Boston University, where she guided residents in rhinoplasty and facial reconstruction and contributed to research exploring new methods in facial aesthetic surgery.
