Revision rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to correct or improve the results of a previous rhinoplasty. It’s often done when the first rhinoplasty didn’t achieve the results you were looking for or because there were complications after the procedure. Like your first rhinoplasty, this second procedure can be done either open or closed. If it’s an open rhinoplasty, more extensive changes likely need to be made, whereas a closed revision rhinoplasty typically means that smaller changes are required.

The Revision Rhinoplasty Procedure
Like your first rhinoplasty, your revision rhinoplasty will start with the administration of general anesthesia. From there, the incisions and changes made during the procedure will depend on the reason for the revision rhinoplasty. Dr. Hassanzadeh will reshape the cartilage and bone and address any complications that occurred after your first procedure. Once everything is reshaped and addressed, she’ll close your incisions and apply an external cast, and you’ll start your recovery.
On average, the procedure can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours.
Revision Rhinoplasty Recovery
Your revision rhinoplasty recovery will be very similar to your original procedure, but it may take longer. It all depends on what’s being changed and the complexity of the surgery. You can expect to have a nasal cast over your nose that will stay in place for 1 week. You will want to rest, keep your head elevated, take at least a week off work, and stay away from strenuous activities. Dr. Hassanzadeh will give you detailed instructions on how best to take care of your nose during the recovery process.
Who is a Candidate?
Most patients who have had a rhinoplasty and are unhappy with the results are candidates for a revision rhinoplasty. We also recommend you have realistic expectations, be in generally good health, be a nonsmoker, and have healed enough to perform the revision surgery.
